What does the White Ribbon Steering Group Do?
The White Ribbon Steering Group meets monthly to review progress on the White Ribbon Action Plan and to plan events and activities scheduled throughout the academic year.
Last academic year, we organised a range of activities on campus to mark White Ribbon Day and the following 16 Days of Action. These included an event focused on men’s Violence Against Women and Girls, featuring a special message from Jess Phillips MP, Minister for Safeguarding and Violence
Against Women and Girls. We also hosted book discussions, sports events, and general information sessions, where staff and students were encouraged to sign the White Ribbon Promise.
We work with a number of partner organisations across the city:
· Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid
· Birmingham City Council
· DORCAS UK
· Gilgal Birmingham
· Jan Foundation
· Muslim Women’s Network
· Roshni Birmingham
· WAITS Women Acting in Today’s Society
· WE:ARE Women's Empowerment and Recovery Educators
Aston University’s Lead Contact for White Ribbon is a member of the Children and Young People’s Delivery Group for Birmingham’s new Domestic Abuse Prevention Strategy. This involvement provides the University with a valuable opportunity to contribute to the development of support services for children and young people across the city.
